Kausalya gives statement before Judicial Magistrate

Kausalya, the 19-year old widow of Dalit youth Shankar, who was hacked to death a week ago in Udumalpet, today recorded her statement before a Judicial Magistrate court in Palladam in Tirupur District.

Kausalya, undergoing treatment in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital here, was taken by ambulance with heavy police security to Palladam in the morning, police said.

She has given the statement before Magistrate G. Krishnan under 164 CrPC, as Kausalya was the witness to her husband’s death, when the couple went shopping in Udumalpet on March 13.

Kausalya had sustained sickle injuries on her head and forehead, needing 36 stitches and was recovering at the Hospital.

After nearly two-and-half-hour witness statement, Kausalya returned to the city around 5 p.m., police said.
