NGOs pays tribute to renowned organic farming scholar Dr. Nammalvar on his 3rd death anniversary.


Today marks the 3rd death anniversary of the great Tamil Scholar, Scientist, father of organic farming, G. Nammalvar. Born in the district of the Thanjavur, Nammalvar did his bachelors in Agriculture and worked as a scientist at the Agricultural Regional Research Station, Kovilpatti.


His love and passion towards farming and agriculture persuaded him do an intensive research on the soil, manures, effects of chemical fertilizers on the soil and the product. Conventional farming practices will do no good to the farmers rather they should adopt to sustainable agricultural methods, was proposed by him. He held many honorary positions at various institutions. He traveled across the globe to witness the process of farming methodologies practiced by various countries.He interacted with the farmers in field and inculcated them with the fruitful practices that will yield good outcome.

 
As a mark of respect to him, here in Coimbatore, Social activists and Volunteers of various NGOs paid floral tributes and showed their respect and love for him on his third death anniversary. 



At an event organised in Singanallur Ulavar Sandhai, the participants distributed herbal saplings to the public. Nilavembu, Thaneerpathini were few among those that were distributed. The volunteers also planted tree saplings along the campus of the market.

Coimbatore Ilayathalaimurai, Sarvasurabhi foundation, Pasumai desam and Abdul kalam pasumai thamilagam were the NGOs that took part in the event. The NGOs jointly formed a concept called 'Namadhu Wardum Namadhu Veedum' (My ward My home) at this juncture.

It is to be noted that the Gandhi Gram Rural University, Dindigul  honored Nammalvar with a doctorate for his tireless and extensive contribution in the field of agriculture. Still his speeches and his videos are most sought by the youngsters who wish to pursue farming as their career.
