Nation-for-All campaign to sensitise on exercising franchise

The Coimbatore Chapter of NGO Jamaat-e-lslami Hind, organized ‘Nation for All,' an event to sensitize the public to cast their votes responsibly in the upcoming elections. Spiritual heads from various religions participated in the campaign and educated the participants on exercising their right to vote by choosing the right leader. The event was held at Athupalam in Coimbatore city today.

Around 400 people participated in this event. A human chain was formed to spread awareness on the necessity to vote. Some of the participants also carried placards that implored the public to not sell their votes.

About 200 students, some of them first time voters, too participated in the event. A number of working professionals too showed up in large numbers.

"The idea to organize this campaign in order to sensitize the public to cast their vote responsibly during the elections was initiated by our district collector Archana Patnaik. She has extended her support in order to make this event successful. As she is busy with her election duty, she couldn't participate. But she guided us and motivated us right from the start," M. Abdul Hakkim, Public Relations Secretary. Jamaat-e-lslami Hind, Coimbatore said.

For the last few weeks, several student volunteers of the Jamaat-e-lslami Hind NGO visited different locations in and around the city to encourage people to vote. They interacted with the public and educated them on why they need to exercise their right to vote.

The motto of the campaign was ‘Unity in Diversity.' and it aimed at creating communal harmony. Alongside, creating awareness about 100 percent polling and voting responsibly, the spiritual heads of various religious organizations also educated the participants on the importance of communal harmony.
