Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner suspends workers for failing to do their duty


A few days ago, it was reported that one of the contractors of the corporation parking lots near Raja Street on ward #83 was suspended by the Corporation Commissioner, K Vijaya Karthikeyan, as he was collecting excess parking fee from users. Following this suspension of the contractor, and the cancellation of his license, the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) had appointed workforce to man this parking lot.

It has come to light that three of the four staff, appointed by the CCMC at this parking lot, went on uninformed leave, following which a departmental inquiry was initiated. A highly placed source from the CCMC shares that the department also received complaints that the staff at this parking lot were also involved in collecting a parking fee more than the stipulated amount.

Assistant revenue officer, special revenue inspector and tax collector visited this parking lot on 1 and 9 January. During their visits the officials confirmed that three of the four appointed workforce was on leave. Instead, private employees were on duty at this parking lot. CCMC has stated that action will be taken against its workforce, for failing to perform the duty that has been assigned to them.
