Reservation - A political tool in wrong hands

Part I of Reservation (Quota System) Vs Real development of the underprivileged.

Our vote lobbying Indian politicians and other self-serving communal and caste groups have been creating long-term distress to the people of this country for their own short-term political gains. They have been, for long, using quota system as an appeasement program to win votes, but in reality making themselves the actual beneficiaries of the system, apparently staging this drama in the guise of uplifting underprivileged communities.

Every citizen of this country, particularly people of the religious minorities and backward communities must understand how quota system in its present form, as promoted by these politicians, is affecting them adversely without their own knowledge. Outwardly it might look like uplifting, but it is more of a back-stabbing; a betrayal to achieve covert objectives.

They have created this vicious cycle of granting opportunity - but suppressing actual growth and fostering discord between various sections of the society merely to keep people of the country backward and divided, so that they can play both caste-communal politics and cynical-perverted-secularism to rule them.

If we see whether many of our politicians, who make a hue and cry in the name of secularism, really believe in secularism or not, the answer is a blunt no, because even posing as secular matters to them only for votes. They strike opportunistic political alliances with a grand tag of secularism while supporting communal and caste groups openly or behind the scene. All of them (both the outrightly communal and casteist parties and pseudo-cynical secularists) invariably exploit minorities and other backward communities, either directly or indirectly by luring them with government grants and quotas.

Certainly, the progress of people belonging to the minority or backward communities is neither their objective nor their intention. All they want is - keep them dependent - never allow them to become independent and self-competent, because if underprivileged people become independent and self-competent then these opportunistic politicians cannot continue to exploit them for votes.

The so-called champions of the quota system, who honestly don’t seek the welfare of the underprivileged communities, but pose as if they are, are the real culprits. Their designs are cynical by nature. They aim for a larger chunk of votes from the underprivileged communities, who, believing these pseudo secularists to be their well-wishers, tend to vote for them en masse. Besides, they also stand to gain from those who belong to neutral groups (opposed to any pro-religious or casteist stance) by posing themselves as neutral or secular.

If we can look through the drama enacted by these so-called secular parties, with even little prudence, we can understand that what the communal political parties do, the same these pseudo secularists also do in the pretext of the quota system and other appeasement programs. And since they have no shame lying, they layer their covert agenda with false rhetoric in support of minorities and backward communities. Actually, this kind of secularism is nothing but a perverted form of communalism. It is even more dangerous than communalism itself because it benefits neither - betrays both.

Real secularism or neutrality means standing up for all, without any inclination or bias. And real equanimity in the society will come only when equal opportunity is provided to every citizen, and when equal support and facilities are offered to every citizen to reach up to these opportunities while ensuring that every form of suppression or discrimination based on religion or caste is dealt with an iron fist.
