Food Review: Lakshmi Shankar Mess, the dining place that tickles your taste buds in a healthy and organic way.

Lakshmi Shankar Mess, is one of the culinary favorites of the city denizens for years now. This dining place at Saibaba Colony serves organic and health boosting dish items which has created a niche of itself in this segment.

As soon as one enters this mess type restaurant, the swirling aroma of aggarbati welcomes the visitor in accompanied by the aromatic smell of garlic and tomatoes which in itself is an appetizing enough for the visitor.

Then the waiter approaches the customer, with a humble query- Sir may I serve you organic rice or normal rice.?

"As health is a watch word here, the food here is prepared with less oil and masala, taking into consideration the overall health of the customer" says Manishankar the proprietor of Lakshmi Shankar Mess.

This mess is the brainchild of Gomathi Shankar of Tuticorin, a good 40 years ago. Later his son Mani Shankar started a branch in Coimbatore in the year 2011.

“I could see that lot of people in Coimbatore prefer dining outside, as not everyone gets the time to prepare food at home. Hence, we decided to serve home-styled good focusing on enhancing one’s health and Mother Earth. For example not a single food item in our mess contains Maida, any processed food or taste enhancers like Ajinomoto that could trouble the digestion process and with possibilities of bringing harmful diseases to the body. Hence, we strongly believe in serving only nutritionally rich food, with appetizing flavors” says Mani Shankar.

With healthy meal is packed with an aromatic soup made of seasonal vegetables and herbs, along with comes the sambar, rasam, morkulambu accompanied with two vegetables, one greens, pulses based snack followed by a super healthy salad and a yummy dessert to complete the meal.

Our desserts, the ‘Payasams’, is most sought by our customers as it doesn’t contain white sugar instead made with organic jaggery-pokery, which is nutritious in every way.

And, ofcourse the tiffin item menu is full of varieties and some unheard dishes too made predominantly out of millets, jowar, bajra, maize, and also green leafy vegetables.

As one walks out of the mess after a hearty meal, one feels that this is not just a place for good food but health and whole some food that tickles your taste buds, in the healthiest way possible.

With two branches, one in Saibaba Colony and Peelamedu, Lakshmi Shankar Mess is a must try restaurant for just not foodies but to all, as it’s all about health!
