The Indic Academy was inaugurated in the year 2015 due to the personal involvement and efforts of the philanthropist, do gooder and Founder Harikiran Vadlamani. It was established with the twin objectives of "nourishing and nurturing scholarships in Indology" and to "groom public intellectuals in developing a dharmic narrative."
The Indic Academy seeks to preserve, protect & promote Indic civilizational identity, thoughts & values by transforming thinkers, nurturing networks and promoting platforms.

In order to fulfil the second objective the Indic Academy an Indic Book Club was incubated by the Founder Harikiran Vadlamani. The Indic Book Club encourages the reading of a curated list of books covering topics under 5 broad areas namely - Understanding Sanatana Dharma, Distortion of our Dharma & History, Rebuttals, Understanding other religions and Understanding various political ideologies. Though a part of the academy, it will be spun into a separate associated entity.
The local co ordinator Dr.M.Pramod Kumar is an Associate Professor at the Amritadarshanam Centre of the Amrita University and he was glad to share the facts connected with the Indic Book Club, "The Indic Book Club is an association of thinkers and it is non political while also being non sectarian. The membership to this will be on referral basis with existing members proposing an intellectual who shares the same values. I am in charge of the logistics and the meetings at Coimbatore. The expenses are to be met out by the members themselves. We have an agenda but changes can be made to suit the local environment too. Basically the three parts are READ wherein a book of ones' choice is looked into through a review, WRITE wherein an author talks about his or her book for 15 minutes and follows it up with 5 minutes of interaction and the third part RE consists of an activist speaking for 20 minutes about a cause or a project which is concerned with rekindling or reviving any aspect of our heritage that needs preservation or addressing an issue that has been wrongly presented so that steps are taken to present the same in the right perspective."

A book exchange is also facilitated by the Indic Book Club (IBC) and about 150 books are circulated every month with the idea of making the members mini librarians. They are expected to share the books among themselves and like minded people. Interestingly the IBC encourages the meetings to be recorded and uploaded on a common Youtube channel. Dr.Pramod adds further, "Eventually we have to win this war of ideas by adopting the READ, WRITE & RE as our personal goal and have CONNECT, CO-OPERATE and COLLABORATE as our collective mission. At an individual level we can cultivate a reading and writing habit through which we can discover our potential and thereafter make a single or multi step transformation from being a social media activist to a blogger to a columnist, author and finally a self made scholar. The collective attempt is made to consciously create an eco system and the monthly meetings are crucial in this regard. Members should be able to seek or extend co-operation from or to other members in aid of a project or task. The CONNECT, COLLABORATE and CO-OPERATE should be the underlying value system for each member. Of course the benefits will be long term only. A network of about 50 chapters of the IBC would be of immediate benefit to authors and activists for it offers a readymade platform. Ultimately it will be a platform which will create an IBC driven eco system for journalists, NGOs, activists, public intellectuals, artists and entrepreneurs. We expect to reach the target of 30 chapters in India and 20 internationally by the March of 2018. The entire process will be made as interesting as possible."
The IBC has had 3 book launch oppourtunities at Coimbatore thanks to the patronage of the SNR Sons Trust and the interest cum benevolence of Swathy Rohit from the group. The first one was the book "Ocean of Churn" by Sanjeev Sanyal who went on to become the Principal Economic Advisor to the Government of India, the second one was the book "Modern Monk" on Swami Vivekananda by Hindol Sengupta and now the third one will be "Semmanthaka" by Dr.K.Syd who is none other than Coimbatorean, Dr.Shivaram. The meetings are based on common programmes in which Nationally popular authors participate in all the chapters and also exclusive programmes wherein local authors are given a chance. Seminars and workshops are part of the exercises and Radhakrishna Pillai who has done books on Chanakya and the famous Amish Tripathi will be visiting and discussing their books in all the chapters. The Coimbatore chapter was inaugurated with 25 members in the December of 2016. A large number of volunteers assist the IBC and it hopes to move towards an Indian renaissance.
"The Indic Book Club hopes to promote a civilizational identity with the aid of thoughts and values while also contributing to nation building both economically and culturally." emphasises Dr.M.Pramod Kumar.
