Wild elephants rampage house in Valparai

Six wild elephants with a calf in Nadumalai Estate area near Valparai rampaged the wall and window of a house of Murali, a resident in the area, on Wednesday night. On receiving information about the incident, forest officials rushed to the spot and chased the wild elephants away into the forest area.



Coimbatore: The movement of wild elephants in the estate areas in and around Valparai in Coimbatore district has been on the rise for the past few months. Six wild elephants along with a calf emerged out of the forest area and roamed around Nadumalai Estate near Valparai, on Wednesday night.



The herd of wild elephants then entered the residential area at night and demolished the wall and a window in the house of Murali, a resident of the area.



Moreover, the elephants reportedly rampaged banners on the roadside too. On receiving information about the incident, forest officials rushed to the spot and chased the wild elephants away into the forest area.

Fearing the increased movement of wild elephants, locals in the estate areas of Valparai have demanded that the Forest Department should take appropriate steps to prevent wild elephants from entering the residential areas.
