Coimbatore car blast: Jamesha Mubin, Nawaz and Feroze reported to be ISIS sympathizers

During the interrogation of the arrested persons, it was revealed that Mubin, Nawaz and Feroz were sympathisers of ISIS but were not in direct contact with the organisation. Mubin is said to have met some people lodged in Kerala's Viyur jail.


COIMBATORE: A man named Jamesha Mubin was killed when a cylinder in his car exploded in front of Kottai Easwaran temple near Ukkadam in Coimbatore, in the early hours of Sunday, October 23. Explosives were recovered from the car and sent to the Forensic Department.

Raw materials for making explosives were found in the house of the deceased Mubin which confirmed to the police that he had attempted a conspiracy to hurt public on the eve of Diwali. Following the case, five more persons involved in the case — Nawaz, Feroz, Talka, Riyaz, Ismail — were arrested under sections including UAPA in connection with the investigation by the STF police.

During the interrogation of the arrested persons, it was revealed that Mubin, Nawaz and Feroz were sympathisers of ISIS but were not in direct contact with the organisation. Mubin is said to have met some people lodged in Kerala's Viyur jail. On October 5, 2020, he met a man named Ajmal Ali. Ajmal Ali, whom Mubin had met had been arrested by the NIA officials and is in jail.

The special cell police are examining the attendance register and CCTV footage of the Viyur jail to find out the background of Mubin with relation to the persons he met int he jail in Kerala.

While the NIA officials arrived in Coimbatore on Tuesday, there are reports that the case is likely to be handed over to the national agency officials either on Wednesday evening or Thursday. It is to be noted that the UAPA act has been registered against the persons arrested under the case.
