Six wild elephants camp on Coonoor-Mettupalayam ghat road in Nilgiris

It is reported that the six wild elephants escaped from the forest area and camped near the 13th hairpin bend on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Ghat road. The Forest Department advised motorists who needed to pass by to be extremely careful.



The Nilgiris: In the Nilgiris and Coimbatore districts, there have been frequent incidents of wild elephants emerging out of forest cover and roaming on the roads. There have also been numerous incidents of attacks on vehicles and also motorists, some fatal.

On Monday, six wild elephants emerged out of the forest area and camped at the 13th hairpin bend on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Ghat road.



These elephants generally eat the fruits, plants and bamboos found in the dense groves on the roadside. The Forest Department is keeping a close watch on the spot where the elephants have camped.



However, the Forest Department has advised motorists to be very careful and the Highway Patrol Police are also monitoring the elephants' movement and the traffic in the area.
