Police intensify surveillance at pharmacies in K G Chavadi area in Coimbatore; Warn of strict action if drugs are sold to youth without prescriptions

Intense surveillance is now being done at pharmacies across Coimbatore district on the orders of Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan. As part of this, discussions are being held with owners of hospitals in the area and pharmacies. They were instructed not to provide medicines to youth without doctors’ prescriptions.



Coimbatore: City Police have formed a special squad to check smuggling and sale of drugs in Coimbatore district since there has been an increase in the use of illegal drugs among college students and youth in the city in the recent past.

One such tragic instance was of the son of a Sub-Inspector of Police who had taken a drug injection near Eachanari a few months ago, and died. Intense surveillance is now being done at pharmacies across Coimbatore district on the orders of Superintendent of Police, V Badrinarayanan.

As part of this, Madukkarai Police Inspector Vairam, Medical Inspector Balamurugan and K G Chavadi Sub-Inspector Saravanan inspected the pharmacies in K G Chavadi area of Coimbatore. They inspected the total stock sales of pills that young people could buy specifically for intoxication.



Following this, they held discussions with the owners of the hospitals in the area and instructed them to not provide medicines without doctors’ prescription.



They were also directed to thoroughly examine the prescriptions brought by college students and provide only some types of medicines.



The police warned that strict action would be taken against those found selling drugs illegally for profiteering. They also created awareness about drug abuse.
