Christian residents return Aadhaar and voter cards over denial of permission to build church in their own land

Protesting against the continued denial of permission to build a church at their own place near Mannarai in Tiruppur district, christian people staged a protest by handing over their Aadhar and voter cards to the collectorate.

Tirupur: Arun Antony hails from Mannarai in Tiruppur district. He is a church pastor and runs a church called Bethel AG Church in the same area. In 2021, Sarrkar had purchased a plot of land at Periyarpalayam on Uthukuli Road for the construction of his own building.

Meanwhile, when he started work on the construction of a compound wall for the church, some people who came there trespassed into the site where the church construction work took place, stopped the construction work and installed the Ganesha idol on a nearby government-owned land.

Pastor Arun Antony lodged a complaint at the police station in this regard. For the past several months, he has been meeting the district collector and revenue officials seeking permission to build the prayer hall.

In this stage, permission to build a church in its own place has been continuously denied. Condemning this and condemning the actions of the authorities who act in a manner that takes away the rights of Christians, Bethel AG said. More than 50 members of the church, led by church pastor Arun Antony, sat on the ground in the collectorate premises and staged a protest.

They also staged a protest to hand over Aadhaar cards, ration cards, voter ID cards, etc., to the Tamil Nadu government to inform the Tamil Nadu government about the denial of permission to build Christian congregations in Tiruppur district and the continued deprivation of the rights of minorities.

During the protest, an argument broke out between the police and the protestors. Due to this, there was a tense atmosphere for some time.
