5 injured in boiler explosion at Aruvankadu explosives factory in Nilgiris

Five persons, including three women were seriously injured when a boiler exploded in the C and D sections of the Central Government-owned explosives factory in the Aruvankadu area of Nilgiris district.


Nilgiris: The Central Government-owned explosives factory which is located at Aruvankadu near Ooty in Nilgiris district has over 100 employees. Raw materials for the explosives required by the defence sector are manufactured here.



Eight persons, including three women who were working in the CT unit that manufactures raw materials were working as usual on Saturday morning when the boiler accidentally exploded. One of the employees, Venugopal sustained serious injuries in the explosion accident while others near the boiler sustained minor injuries on their hands and legs.



Three people who were seriously injured in the explosion were shifted to the Ooty Government Medical College Hospital and two others were sent to Coimbatore.



While security officials have launched an investigation into the incident, the Wellington police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. In August last year, another explosion occurred in another area near the site of the explosion, and this seems to be one more incident of an explosion.
