CCTV footage of woman being robbed of 5-sovereign chain in broad daylight in city's Singanallur area goes viral

Police are on the lookout for two chain-snatchers who stole a 5-sovereign 'thaali' chain from the neck of a woman as she was entering her house in Thirukumaran Nagar near Singanallur in Coimbatore.

Coimbatore: Selvi (50), a native of Singanallur in Coimbatore district lives in a rented house with her two daughters in Thirukumaran Nagar area.

Selvi, who works in a private company on Trichy Road, was getting ready to go to work as usual on Tuesday morning. At around 10 am when she opened the door of her house to go to work, an unidentified person was reportedly standing outside her door. When Selvi asked him why he was standing at her door, the man reportedly replied that the owner of the house had asked him to visit the house.

When Selvi tried to close the door, the man snatched the 5-sovereign 'thaali' chain from her neck, pushed her down and fled from the spot. A shocked Selvi rushed out of the house and saw the chain-snatcher fleeing on the two-wheeler of another person who was waiting outside.

The victim lodged a complaint with the Singanallur police station regarding the incident. The police reached the spot on the basis of the complaint and examined the CCTV footage from the area. The footage showed two persons arrive outside Selvi's house on a two-wheeler, and while one was waiting outside on the two-wheeler with an eye on the neighbourhood, the other person entered the house, snatched the gold chain from Selvi and fled from the scene on the two-wheeler.

It is reported that the chain-snatching incident took place since the duo seemed to have known when Selvi was alone in the house. The police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are on the lookout for the miscreants involved in the chain snatching, using the aid of the CCTV footage.
