Nilgiris District Traders Association in Ooty demands exemption from test purchase procedure

On behalf of the Nilgiris District Traders Association, a petition was submitted to the District Commercial Tax Officer in Ooty demanding exemption for small and marginal traders from the practice of test purchases.

The Nilgiris: The Commercial Taxes Department has introduced a new system called 'Test Purchases' and goods vehicle audit system in retail outlets across Tamil Nadu.

Small traders stated that they have been severely affected by the new system. Therefore, traders associations in all districts have submitted a petition to the respective district commercial tax offices today seeking exemption for small and marginal traders from this system.

More than 100 traders led by the District President Parameswaran on behalf of the Federation of Nilgiris District Traders Association met the District Commercial Tax Officer in Ooty and submitted a petition.

Later, the District President Parameswaran spoke to reporters saying, "The test purchase system should be levied on employers who sell more than Rs. 5 crore per annum, but it will be severely impacted by the levy on small and marginal traders."

Parameshwaran also demanded that a fine of upto Rs. 20,000 be imposed on shops in the name of 'test purchases' and put on hold for six months until there is awareness among the traders about the new practice.
