Ooty Court adjourns hearing in Kodanad murder cum heist case to January 7

During the hearing of the Kodanad case at Ooty District Sessions Court, Justice Murugan adjourned the case to January 27 as the public prosecutor sought time as for to examine the mobile phone communications and electronic evidence.



The Nilgiris: A murder cum heist occured at the Kodanad estate, the residence of late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on April 23, 2017, in which the watch man of estate bungalow Om Bahadur, was murdered.

According to reports, 11 people, including Jayalalithaa's former car driver Kanagaraj, Sayan from Kerala and Walayar Manoj, were allegedly involved in the sensational case. Kanagaraj, the first accused, died in a road accident near Salem.

Following this, 10 people, including Sayan, have been named as accused and are currently out on bail. The case has been going on in the Ooty district sessions court for the past five years. The investigation in the case has now been handed over to the CB-CID police.

The case came up for hearing at the district and sessions court in Ooty today. Public prosecutors Shah Jahan and Kanagaraj appeared for the hearing.



On behalf of the CB-CID police, a police team led by investigating officer Murugavel, the accused Sayan and Walayar Manoj appeared before the court.

During the hearing, public prosecutor Shah Jahan, appearing for the government has stated that the CB-CID has started the process of examining the veracity of the 720 mobile phone communications seized during the investigation conducted by the Special Cell police. The special cell police are examining the documents handed over to them.

"Consultations are also being held with competent officials in the department to examine the electronic evidence. Time should be given for investigation and as mobile phone communications need to be examined".Shahjahan argued.
