Tiruppur District Sees Rise in Water Levels at Amaravathi and Thirumurthi Dams

Water levels at Amaravathi dam in Tiruppur district have risen to 37.6 feet and Thirumurthi dam to 38.44 feet. Water Resources Department officials report continuous inflow from catchment areas, bringing relief to farmers and drinking water supply.

Coimbatore: Water levels at two major dams in Tiruppur district - Amaravathi and Thirumurthi - have risen significantly due to continuous inflow from their catchment areas, providing much-needed relief to farmers and ensuring adequate drinking water supply.

The Amaravathi dam in Tiruppur district has a total capacity of 90 feet. Due to continuous water inflow from catchment areas, the water level has risen to 37.6 feet as of June 26. Currently, the dam is receiving an inflow of 145 cubic feet per second. Water Resources Department officials have stated that there is no water discharge from the dam at present.

The Thirumurthi dam, located near Udumalaipettai in Tiruppur district, has a total capacity of 60 feet. Thanks to continuous water inflow from its catchment areas, the water level stands at 38.44 feet as of June 26.

Currently, the Thirumurthi dam is receiving an inflow of 581 cubic feet per second. With the water level rising steadily, 321 cubic feet of water per second is being discharged from the dam, Water Resources Department officials informed.

The rising water levels in both dams have come as welcome news for farmers and drinking water supply. If the water inflow continues at the current rate, the water levels in these dams are expected to rise further, ensuring adequate water availability for irrigation and domestic consumption in the region.
