'Karthigai Deepam' festival celebrated at a Dargah near Avinashi, stands testimony to communal harmony

At the Dargah of Dakni Sunnat Jamaat Masjid Muhammad Shah in Kanur, next to Avinashi, lamps were lit all over the dargah on the occasion of Karthigai Deepam festival to celebrate religious and communal harmony.



Tirupur: The Dakni Sunnat Jamaat Masjid Muhammad Shah Vali Dargah, located in Kanur panchayat next to Avinashi in Tirupur district, is one of the most revered dargahs in Tamil Nadu.

This dargah, which is attached to the Tamil Nadu Waqf Board, is constantly visited not only by the people of the neighbouring towns and villages but from all over the places in the state and beyond.

It is customary of the people in the area light a lamp in the dargah and worship on the occasion of Karthigai Deepam festival. This year too, on the occasion of Karthigai Deepam, women lit lamps in the dargah and offered prayers.



Also, the diyas or lamps were placed around the dargah. People from all walks of life, irrespective of their caste, creed or religion worship at this dargah as any prayers are answered and things like career development, marriage or child boon are fulfilled.



"It is customary for people in the region to come here every year and light the Karthigai deepam during the Karthigai Deepam festival. This dargah is a great example of religious harmony. It has been customary to light karthigai deepam here since time immemorial" say local of Kanur village near Avinahsi.

Moreover, the annual "SanthanaKoodu" urush festival is celebrated here with great pomp and gaiety.

It is to be noted that thousands of people from various parts of the country including Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Sathi, Mettupalayam, Chennai, and Mysore keep visiting this dargah for offering special prayers, all year around.
