Car collides head-on with truck in Ooty - a tourist from Karnataka killed in the tragedy

One person was killed and three others were seriously injured after a truck carrying vegetables collided head-on with a tourist car at Thalaikundha on the Ooty-Gudalur highway due to dense fog.



The Nilgiris: Dense fog was witnessed at Thalaikundha area on the highway from Ooty to Gudalur.



In this case, a truck carrying hill vegetables collided head-on with a car in which the tourists were travelling.



The deceased has been identified as Mahananda (34), a native of Kollegala in Karnataka, who was travelling in the car on the spot.

His wife Lavanya and their relatives Lingaraj and Rajeshwari were seriously injured in the accident.



On receiving information, the police reached the spot and rescued the three injured and admitted them to the Government Hospital in Ooty for treatment. Later, the three were sent to Coimbatore for further treatment.

Puthumandhu police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Due to heavy fog and rain in Ooty and surrounding areas due to Cyclone Mandaz for the last two days, It is to be noted that the motorists were facing a lot of difficulties as the vehicles coming in the opposite direction were not properly visible.
