City Municipal Corporation plans to buy more robots for cleaning and unblocking operations in UGDS

City Corporation has engaged six robots for the purpose of cleairng blockages in Underground Drainage System (UGDS) sewers and it has planned to procure additional robots as per the requirement.



Coimbatore: There are more than 1,000 streets in Coimbatore City Corporation limits. and the network of UGDS is being laid for the over 600 kilometers in areas under the corporation limits across the city..



As robotic machines are increasingly being used to to unclog and clean underground sewer blockages, in November 2019, the first robotic machine worth about Rs 36 lakh was procured by the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation.

This robotic machine was used for the first time to repair underground sewer blockages near Uppilipalayam signal in Coimbatore.

In the meantime, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has donated 5 modern robots to the Corporation a total cost of Rs 2.12 crore, for disposal of underground sewage waste.



"Now all these robots have been pressed into service to cleaning and unblocking operations in UGDS around the city. Meanwhile, the Municipal administration is planning to procure additional robots as per the requirement."a senior Corporation official said, and added "Robots are cleaning the underground sewer blockages with high degree of efficiency.

Moreover, during the rainy season, these robots are able to clean sewers very easily. So the municipal administration is planning to buy more robots as per the requirement.
