During a raid at a godown near Sandapettai on Palladam Road, the police seized banned gutka worth lakhs of rupees and arrested two men.
Tirupur: The police have received repeated complaints that drugs, including gutka that has been banned by the Tamil Nadu Government, is being sold in various parts of Tirupur district.
Based on this, on the instructions of Tirupur City Police Commissioner Prabhakaran, the Special Task Force police conducted a strict vigil at various places across Tirupur district, on Sunday. The police received a tip-off that a drug banned by the Tamil Nadu Government is being stored in a godown near Sandapettai on Palladam Road under South Police station.
Following this, the Special Task Force rushed to the spot and seized 274 kg of hans and gutka items from the godown.
Venkatesan, a native of Ramanathapuram district, and Thalaram of Erode were arrested by the police for their involvement in the sale of drugs. Gutka items worth lakhs of rupees were seized from them.
Following this, the Special Task Force police are conducting intensive searches at various places to curb sale of ganja and gutka products.
