Police arrest culprit in connection with the death of an elderly woman in a case of murder for gain

Police arrested Arumugam in connection with the death of an elderly woman near SV Colony Road in Tirupur. Arumugam slit the woman’s throat and snatched five sovereigns of jewellery from her after entering her house.



Tirupur: Police have arrested Arumgam of Vazhapadi near Salem in connection with the murder of an elderly woman near SV Colony Road in Tirupur. The culprit robbed five sovereigns of jewellery from her after slitting her throat.

Muthusamy and Chandramani are residents of TSR Layout, SV Colony Main Road, near Tiruppur.

Both of them lived alone in the house, near which their sons run a chemical company.

Chandramani, who got up at 4.50 a.m. opened the front gate of the house and was cooking for her husband when an unidentified person entered the house without anyone noticing.

As his wife did not come out for a long time, Muthusamy became suspicious and checked out.

Shockingly enough he found his wife’s body in a pool of blood in the kitchen.

Muthusamy, who was shocked to see his wife in a pool of blood, informed the police.

Tirupur North police, who arrived at the crime spot, recovered Chandramani's body and sent it to the government hospital for post-mortem.

When the police scanned the CCTV footage installed in the house, they found out that a 55-year-old man had entered the house and left shortly thereafter.

In a breakthrough arrest, the police arrested Arumugam from his house in Vazhapadi area of Salem district. They brought him to Tirupur after it came to light that the accused person was hiding in Salem.

He was produced in court and remanded in custody.
