Police case filed against former AIADMK Minister Buddhichandran for alleged land grabbing in Ooty

A case has been registered against former AIADMK minister Buddhichandran under three sections of the IPC for allegedly attempting to grab a tea estate. The former minister had reportedly encroached upon 15 cents of land belonging to an elderly couple in Ooty by removing tea plants using an earth remover.


Nilgiris: Raju (71), a resident of Manikkal village near Manjoor in the Nilgiris district. He is a retired accountant of the Nilgiris District Cooperative Marketing Society.

He lives with his wife Prema with the income generated from a 15-cent tea estate in Manikkal village.

In the meanwhile, Buddhichandran, who was the Tourism and Food Minister during the AIADMK regime, had approached Raju with the aim of buying his 15-cent tea estate.

Raju had then refused to sell the estate saying that a low price was quoted.

However, Raju had been threatened by the former minister Buddhichandran demanding that the former part of his estate land. By engaging a porclain, about 300 tea plants from Raju's estate land was removed by the former Minister.

Following this, Raju lodged a complaint with the Manjoor police station. The Manjoor police, who received the complaint, interrogated Raju and Buddhichandran.

Following this, a case has been registered against former minister Buddhichandran under three sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for trespassing into Raju's estate, damaging the land and criminal intimidation.

It is to be noted that Buddhichandran was elected as an MLA from Nilgiris Assembly Constituency in 2011 and also held the post of AIADMK District secretary twice.
