Bull breeders and tamers urge Tirupur collector to conduct Jallikattu at Alagumalai

More than 50 bull breeders and bull tamers have submitted a petition to the Tirupur Collector seeking permission to conduct Jallikattu in Alagumalai area.

Tirupur: The bull-taming sport of Jallikattu has been conducted for the past four years in Alagumalai of Tirupur district.

However, the Panchayat President and members of Alagumalai panchayat have filed a case in the High court seeking court intervention for not conducting Jallikattu this year.

The Madras High Court, which heard the case, said that the District collector can take a decision in this regard. However, no talks have been held so far between the two sides on behalf of the district administration.

Attributing political motives for the discontinuation of Jallikattu, the petitioners said that the collector should extend permission to conduct the bull-taming sport in Alagumalai.
