Ooty Flower Show Begins Today: 50 Special Buses Launched for Tourists

The 128th edition of the world-famous Ooty Flower Show commenced today at the Government Botanical Garden in Nilgiris district. To manage the influx of tourists, 50 special buses will operate every 5 minutes connecting Ooty with Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode and Mettupalayam throughout the 11-day event ending May 28.

Coimbatore: The internationally acclaimed Ooty Flower Show has officially begun today (May 18) at the Government Botanical Garden in Nilgiris district, marking the 128th edition of this prestigious annual event. The vibrant floral exhibition will continue until May 28, spanning 11 spectacular days of colorful displays and attractions.

Thousands of tourists and visitors from various districts across Tamil Nadu and neighboring states have already started converging on the hill station to witness this magnificent celebration of nature. The flower show, held annually at this world-renowned tourist destination, has become a major attraction drawing nature enthusiasts and families alike.

To ensure smooth movement of visitors and prevent traffic congestion on the winding mountain roads, the district administration has been operating circular route buses since April. With the official commencement of the flower show, additional measures have been introduced to enhance visitor convenience and traffic management.

The Transport Department headquarters has announced the deployment of 50 special buses operating at 5-minute intervals from Ooty to key destinations including Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode and Mettupalayam. These buses will facilitate easy return journeys for visitors after they experience the flower show. Similarly, special buses will also operate from plains areas including Coimbatore and Mettupalayam to Ooty throughout the event period.

Apart from the regular circular route buses, new "Park and Ride" special buses have been introduced in designated areas. This innovative system allows visitors to park their vehicles at specified locations and use the shuttle service to reach the botanical garden, significantly reducing congestion near the venue.

To handle any unforeseen vehicle breakdowns on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam and Kotagiri mountain routes during these 11 days, mobile repair vehicles have been stationed at strategic points. Additionally, crane vehicles are positioned along the routes to quickly clear any traffic obstructions and maintain smooth flow of vehicles.

The Transport Department has appointed dedicated special traffic officers to monitor the special bus operations and ensure safe travel for tourists round-the-clock. This comprehensive arrangement has been well-received by visitors who appreciate the organized approach to managing the massive influx of tourists during the flower show season.

The 128th Ooty Flower Show promises to be a grand spectacle, showcasing an extensive variety of flowers, ornamental plants and creative floral arrangements. With the enhanced transport facilities and careful planning by the district administration, visitors can look forward to a comfortable and memorable experience at this historic event.
