Coimbatore A lone male elephant which entered a residential area in Kanuvai area made the people run helter-skelter as it chased them after entering the neighbourhood this morning.
Coimbatore: Even as more than 15 wild elephants are camping in Periyathadagam forest area, the forest department officials have advised the public not to venture out unnecessarily during the night hours.
In this scenario, a single male wild elephant, which left the Marudhamalai forest area last night, entered the residential area on Vadavalli -Kanuvai Road.
It drank water from a water tank near ta private marriage hall and retreated into a nearby banana plantation.
After the people of the area informed the forest department about this, the forest department staff reached the spot and started monitoring the movement of the elephant.
However, the lone wild elephant returned back and appeared on the Kanuvai Main Road this morning. As the elephant chased the public, they ran away fearing for their lives.
The forest department staff has reached the spot and trying to drive the elephant back into the forest.
