Sugarcane flies from Coimbatore to Sharjah; 600 kg remittance on the first day

On the occasion of Pongal festival, sugarcane is brought to Coimbatore from Madurai and Nilakottai and is being booked for transportation in a Sharjah flight.

Coimbatore: Sugarcane is being airlifted from Coimbatore to Sharjah on the occasion of Pongal festival.

Flights are provided from Coimbatore airport to Sharjah five days a week and Singapore on all days of the week.

This year, pongal festival will be celebrated on January 15 and Tamils living in Sharjah and surrounding areas will be able to celebrate the festival.

Coimbatore airport authorities said, "It is customary to carry 2.5 tonnes to 3 tonnes of cargo each time on a flight between Coimbatore and Sharjah. On the occasion of Pongal festival, sugarcane is brought to Coimbatore from Madurai and Nilakottai and is being booked for transportation in a Sharjah flight.

Sugarcane is being sent from today. More than 1 tonne of sugarcane was booked on the first day. There will be difficulty in transporting other goods as more space is required to transport the entire sugarcane. As a result, 400 kg of sugarcane has been reduced and 600 kg of sugarcane is allowed to be transported."
