“Samathuva Pongal†celebrations were held at the premises of Thavathiru Santhalinga Adigalar Tamil College, Perur, Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: Samathuva Pongal and religious harmony celebrations were held on behalf of the Multi-Religious Harmony Movement at the premises of Thavathiru Santhalinga Adigalar Tamil College, Perur on Thursday.

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan participated in the function and delivered the keynote address.

"I am happy that people of all religions have come together and celebrated Pongal in a way that brings about religious harmony†Balakrishnan said.
“It is a special experience in India to see people of different religions sitting in this hall. He said the students studying here should make efforts to become better officers, politicians, best professionals and doctors†the Commissioner noted.

Awards were presented to community personalities involved in various social services organisations on the occasion.

Commissioner of Police Balakrishnan also distributed prizes and educational incentives to the students, who participated in the Pongal games.

On this occasion, Haji J. Sasikala, President of the Multi-Religious Harmony Movement, was present. Muhammed Rafi, Coordinator M.M. Ramasamy, Perur Santhalinga Adigalar Tamil College President Shanthalinga Marudasala Adigalar, Coimbatore Sunnat Jamath Federation General Secretary Haji M.A. Ilatullah, Archdiocese Chief Priest St. Michael's Archbishop and others took part.
