According to the Kerala forest department, "The baby elephant may not have had a trunk at birth. Or it may have lost its trunk in the attack by other wild animals. But, the baby elephant is healthy and walks with the mother elephant. We are monitoring the movement of the elephant."
The people of the area have demanded that the elephant, which is roaming around without a trunk, should be caught and treated.
