Police arrested a group of AITUC trade unionists, who staged a road blockade demanding that the central government should end its anti-worker policies.
Tirupur: AITUC trade unionists in Tirupur staged a protest and blocked the road to press for their charter of demands.
At the protest held in front of the statue of Tirupur Kumaran, the trade unionists said that the central government should give up its policies inimical to the workers.
“Steps should be taken to protect the micro and small industries. Workers who worked for 240 days should be made permanent” the protesters demanded.
The demands included that the employees should be paid not less than Rs 21,000 as monthly wages.
Following this, the AITUC trade unionists took out a procession and staged a road blockade in front of the Head post office. Due to this, traffic in the area was affected for some time.
Following this, the police arrested the protestors and removed them from the scene.
