Tea estate workers panicked when a herd of wild elephants suddenly entered the tea estates in Gudalur's Devarshola area of the Nilgiris district. The Forest Department is actively engaged in the task of chasing the herd back into the forest.
The Nilgiris: The number of wild elephants straying into the Gudalur and Pandalur areas of the Nilgiris district has been on the increase with every passing day. In particular, lone wild male elephants and makna elephants have been frequently entering tea estates, and attacking estate workers.
On Tuesday morning, a herd of wild elephants entered the third division tea estate in Devarshola area due to which the estate workers did not turn up for work.
The Forest Department is now actively engaged in the task of driving the herd of elephants away which have been roaming inside the tea gardens.
In spite of assurance from the forest officials, locals in the area are still in a state of panic since the elephants continue to roam around in the estate areas.
