Police have arrested two persons for stealing a motorcycle parked in front of a restaurant near Udumalpet in broad daylight.
Tirupur: Kannabiran (49), a native of Kannadiputhur near Madathukulam in Tiruppur district. had come to Kumaralingam to meet his friend the day before yesterday.
He had parked his motorcycle in front of the restaurant on Udumalaipet - Palani road and went inside to dine. When he returned, he found the motorcycle was missing.
Shocked by this, Kannabiran lodged a complaint at Kumaralingam police station. The theft, which took place in broad daylight on the main road filled with people, created a sensation and the police launched a manhunt for the bike thieves.
A case has been registered and the police have launched a thorough investigation and scrutinised the recordings of CCTV cameras in the neighbourhood.
Police found out that two persons had parked a motorcycle in an isolated area of the village and were erasing the numbers on its number plate.
During their interrogation, it was revealed that it was Kannabiran's motorcycle stolen in front of the restaurant.
The two arrested had been identified as Arulraj (38), a resident of Kumaralingam Indira Street and Bhagavathi (27), a resident of Zahir Hussain Street.
The bike thieves repeatedly said 'That's our bike sir, give it to me, sir. We have to leave,' which evoked surprise among the onlooker and police.
