Coimbatore Forest Dept. celebrates World Wetlands Day

The event was organised in association with Coimbatore Corporation and CUBE. Students from various schools and colleges, volunteers, forest officials and staff of Madukkarai range participated.



Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Forest Division celebrated World Wetlands Day on Thursday, February 2, on the banks of the Singanallur lake on behalf of the Coimbatore Forest Division.



Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Balakrishnan, Conservator of Forests and Field Director Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Ramasubramaniyam, Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner M Prathap, District Forest Officer Ashok Kumar and others were present.

Palm saplings were planted on the banks of the pond. Later, forest officials addressed the students on the conservation of wetlands. Prizes were distributed to the winners of the awareness competitions conducted in various schools on the occasion of World Wetland Day. Prizes were also awarded to the winners of the competitions held on the occasion of World Wildlife Week.



A bicycle rally was also held to make everyone aware of the importance of wetlands.



Identification cards were issued to wetland friends and a pledge was taken to protect the wetlands in the world.
