TN Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji garlanded the statue of Narayanasamy Naidu at Vaiyampalayam near Coimbatore on the occasion of his 99th birth anniversary.
Coimbatore: The 99th birth anniversary celebrations of late Farmer leader Narayanasamy Naidu, the founder of the Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam, were held at Vaiyampalayam near Kovilpalayam in Coimbatore district.
TN Electricity Minister Senthil Balaji participated in the function and garlanded the statue of Narayanasamy Naidu.
During the event, a demand was made on behalf of the farmers' community that the house where Narayanasamy Naidu had lived should be converted into a library and an entrance gate of Manimandapam should be set up in his memory.
Later, Senthil Balaji told reporters: “Steps will be taken to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of the late farmer leader in a grand manner. I would take up the issue with the CM’.
“These demands will be brought to the notice of the Chief Minister and fulfilled. In order to ensure that Narayanasamy Naidu's centenary reaches all farmers” Senthil Balaji said.
Lauding the late farmer leader as a driving force of the farmers, the minister said he strived hard to get free electricity to the farmers during his lifetime and was a champion of farmers' rights.
Coimbatore Collector Kranthi Kumar Padi, Coimbatore DMK North district secretary Ravi, South district secretary Thalapathy Murugesan, former MLA Aarukutty, Narayanasamy Naidu's family members took part.
