Coimbatore: The Town Panchayat Executive Officer imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on a private pharmacy owner for dumping medical waste in Perur Periyakulam in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore Tanks Protection Organisation has submitted a memorandum to the District Collector seeking appropriate action against the owner of the private pharmacy for dumping medical waste in Perur Periyakulam.
The Coimbatore Tanks Protection Organisation in Coimbatore has been maintaining saplings on the banks of the Perur Periyakulam under the Mayawaki (Adarvanam) system.

When the organisation members went to the pond to overlook the maintenance of the saplings as usual on Monday, they found medical waste including tablets and medicines dumped on the banks of the pond.

Shocked by the sight, the volunteers immediately photographed the medical waste that was strewn and submitted a complaint to the Executive Officer of Perur Town Panchayat.
They also handed over private dispensary receipts from the spot where the medical waste was dumped.
Following this, the Executive Officer imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on a private dispensary named Sri Azhagu Pharma.
Meanwhile, the Coimbatore Tanks Protection Organisation has submitted a memorandum to the Coimbatore District Collector, Kranthi Kumar Pati demanding that criminal action be taken against the owner of the dispensary for dumping medical waste on the banks of Perur Periakulam and also asked the Health Department to collect the maximum penalty from the offender.
