Coimbatore Dist. Collector assures North Indian workers are safe; Urges migrant workers to not believe in rumours

"All steps have been taken by the district administration to ensure that people from all Indian states work with utmost security in Coimbatore district," assured Coimbatore District Collector, Kranthi Kumar Pati.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore District Collector, Kranthi Kumar Pati has categorically stated that all measures are being taken by the district administration to ensure that people from all Indian states work with utmost security.

In a statement, the District Collector said, "Coimbatore district is an industrial district with community members and labourers from all the States, industrial establishments and various industries. It is a district where its people live in a peaceful and secure manner without any enmity toward anyone. All workers here are provided with the necessary accommodation, food, wages and education for the children by the employers themselves. Thus far, the district administration has taken effective and expeditious steps to ensure that no caste, language and ethnic issues take place and it maintains law and order to keep the public at peace. In the last few days, misinformation has been circulating on WhatsApp and social media that there is a threat to workers from the Northern states in Coimbatore district and that they are leaving Coimbatore due to this."

"All these are rumours that have been falsely portrayed with evil intent. In order to redress the grievances of the workers of other States, a 'Migrant Labour Committee' headed by the District Revenue Officer in Coimbatore has been constituted. Law and order is also being maintained well through the Police Department. Therefore, workers from other states can immediately contact toll free number 1077 in the Disaster Management Unit functioning at the District Collectorate in Coimbatore, if they have any threats or grievances to their safety at their workplace. The Coimbatore City Police Commissioner's Office Control Room can be contacted by contacting phone numbers 0422-2300970, 9498181213, 8190000100 9443808277 and the Coimbatore District Superintendent of the police's office control room mobile number 9498181212 and 7708100100," added the Collector.

"All employers who have employed workers from outside the State are requested to ensure their safety by registering their complete details on the website labour.tn.gov.in/ism which has been created separately by the Government of Tamil Nadu for workers from outside the State. We have to cooperate with the district administration to maintain law and order. In Coimbatore district, all measures are being taken by the district administration to ensure that people of all States work with utmost security and appropriate security is being provided. Therefore, none of the workers from other states should believe in the rumour-mongering videos," urged the Collector in his statement.
