Coimbatore: The main accused Sanjay Raja, in the sensational murder case of Sathyapandian, tried to open fire at the policemen when he was under police custody.
According to Police, Sub-inspector Chandramoorthy shot Sanjay Raja in defence in the leg when he tried to open fire at the policemen who accompanied him to a spot to retrieve a China-made pistol, which was used as a murder weapon in the case.
Sanjay Raja was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Coimbatore city police have formed a special team to investigate the murder.
While four persons have been arrested in the case already, the main accused Sanjay Raja has surrendered before the court recently.
The city police filed an application in court to take him into police custody and interrogate him.
Police investigations revealed that the murder gang used Chinese-made pistol as a murder weapon.
When inspector Krishna Leela, sub-inspectors Chandramurthy and Chandrasekhar and other police personnel took Sanjay Raja near Karattumedu Murugan temple and tried to retrieve the murder weapon from the spot, Sanjay Raja, who picked up the pistol fired a shot and threatened the police with dire consequences.
Acting in defence, Sub-inspector Chandramurthy, shot Sanjay Raja in the leg.
“Sanjay Raja, who was injured in the incident, dropped his gun and fell down. He was later taken to the CMCH for treatment" Police said.
