Bus driver Sharmila arrives in Coimbatore, passengers flock to take selfies

Sharmila, who is the driver of a private bus plying between Gandhipuram and Somanur in Coimbatore, is a fan of the people of the area, college students and students. They are also taking selfies with her. Sharmila said that her father Mahesh, who is an auto rickshaw driver, is the sole reason for being a bus driver.

Coimbatore: Sharmila, a woman driver of a private bus connecting Coimbatore, has been showered with praises.

Sharmila works as a driver in a private bus between Gandhipuram and Somanur in Coimbatore district.

The college students travelling in the bus are also fans of his driving, who is driving the bus effortlessly.

Sharmila, who once again proves that a woman is no less than a man, is praised by the passengers and passers-by in the bus. They also take selfies.

In this regard, Sharmila said, “My father Mahesh, who drives a gas cylinder auto, was the one who inspired me.At first, I drove that cylinder auto and learnt to drive. It was only then that I drove a cylinder auto several times to help my father.

That's why I got the idea of becoming a driver.Since I wanted to be a bus driver, I got trained to drive a heavy vehicle and then got a licence for the same.

A driver is something that many people in the society look at with a frown, but I became more interested in the work that everyone saw less.

Ever since I was in class 7, I became interested in driving. Even at home, the dream got a green signal because you were told to do whatever you wanted to do.

My dad is the whole reason why I get a heavy vehicle licence. If you decide to achieve, I will proudly say that my daughter is the first female bus driver in Satichiru Coimbatore.

All those who looked at me with laughter and derision when they started going for bus training are looking at it in amazement today. After completing my driving training, I did not wait for a government job but took advantage of the opportunity offered by a private company called VV Transport.”

Meanwhile, a college student, who was travelling in the bus run by Sharmila, said, "I have usually seen only men running the bus. Now, for the first time ever, a young woman is driving a bus.

Sharmila is an example to others. We would be reluctant to talk to male drivers but we could easily approach the female driver and get down at the stop," she said.
