Palm Sunday: Large number of Christians march with palm leaves in Coimbatore

In Coimbatore, Christians from various churches participated in the 'Palm Sunday' procession held in various Churches and marched through the main streets, carrying palm leaves in their hands.


Coimbatore: A large number of Christians from various churches in Coimbatore took out a procession carrying shorts on the occasion of 'Kurutholai Sunday'.

The Lent period, observed by Christians to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, began on February 22. During the 40-day period of penance, the last week, which includes the death and resurrection of Jesus on the cross, is observed as Holy Week.

The first day of this holy week is known as Palm Sunday. On this day, Christians go in a procession carrying palm leaves in their hands. Palm Sunday procession on behalf of CSI Christunathar Temple, Gandhipuram, Coimbatore, started in front of the Church. It was presided over by Bishop's President David Barnabas, Secretary Jayachandran and treasurer Ravinder Singh took the lead.

Gandhipuram CSI procession, which began from the Church of Christ, a large number of men, women and children, carrying palm leaves in their hands, took out a procession, singing the name of Jesus, Hosanna Hosanna. The procession passed through fifth street and main street and reached the temple. This was followed by special prayers at the temple.

Good Friday will be observed on April 7th, followed by Easter on Sunday April 9th to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
