A day-long campaign tour was organised in Coimbatore by the Collective for Social Justice to press for various demands, including the installation of a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in Coimbatore city. It was inaugurated by Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam General Secretary K Ramakrishnan.
Coimbatore: A day-long campaign was organised by the Collective Movement for Social Justice in Coimbatore demanding the installation of a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar.
The campaign, which was launched in front of the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam office at Gandhipuram in Coimbatore, was inaugurated by Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam general secretary K Ramakrishnan.

As per the resolution of the Coimbatore Municipal Council, a full-fledged statue of Dr. Ambedkar should be erected near the Red Cross society and reservation should be provided to all communities.
SC, S.D. A separate law should be brought in to provide reservation to the people in urban local body elections. A separate special law should be enacted to restore panchami lands. All sanitation workers should be made permanent and paid the wages fixed by the government.
A separate ordinance should be brought in to prevent honour killings. A common water tank should be developed as a public crematorium samathuvapuram. The vacancies of government employees should be filled up immediately.
The Union government and the state government should ensure that everyone has access to food to eat, clothes to wear and a place to stay. The demands included that the iron fences around the Ambedkar statue across Tamil Nadu should be removed and monitored through cameras.
The campaign was coordinated by VCK's Coimbatore regional organising secretary S.C. Kalaiyarasan. Members of various organisations including CPM, Adi Thamizhar Peravai, Dravida Thamizhar Katchi, Tamil Tiger Party and others are participating in the event.
