Project estimate ready to revamp accident prone areas in Tirupur - Minister E.V. Velu

Minister for Public Works and Highways E.V. Velu said that 236 accident prone areas in Tirupur have been identified and a project estimate has been prepared at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore to revamp them.



Tirupur: Public Works Department (PWD) Minister E V Velu has said that a project estimate has been prepared for the restoration of accident prone areas in Tirupur.

A review meeting on road safety was held at the Collectorate auditorium in Tirupur under the chairmanship of State Highways and Public Works Department and Ports Minister E.V. Velu.



In this meeting, the Minister felicitated the students who participated in road safety awareness competitions in Tirupur district and gave away mementos. He continued to hold discussions with the officials.

"In the last two years, 45 km of roads in Tirupur district have been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 622 crore and the work is in progress.



250 crore rupees have been set aside as part of the Chief Minister's Development Programme for the improvement of 25 km of roads in the Tirupur district. Coimbatore-Karur four-lane road works are being intensified.

"We have been continuously urging the Central Government to construct bye pass in four areas of Vellakoil, Kangeyam, Palladam and Tirupur to ease the traffic congestion in Tirupur district.

Tirupur is the hallmark of the world, which is capable of earning foreign exchange. Road accidents have come down when compared to the last review meeting and this review meeting. However, suggestions have been received to reduce it further.

Saminathan, the minister of tirupur district, and legislators have given various demand letters to ease the traffic congestion in Tirupur district. It will be forwarded to the Chief Engineers and suitable steps will be taken to reduce traffic congestion.

Ministers Swaminathan, Kayalvizhi Selvaraj, MLA Selvaraj, Mayor Dinesh Kumar, District Collector, Corporation Commissioner, police officials and others participated in the review meeting.
