Elderly woman sleeping at home robbed of 5-sovereign gold chain near Mettupalayam

The miscreants reportedly broke into an elderly lady Marathal's house near Mettupalayam and removed a 5-sovereign gold chain from her neck while she was sleeping.



Coimbatore: Police are on the lookout for miscreants who removed a 5-pound gold chain from an elderly woman's neck while she was sleeping in her house near Mettupalayam.

Velliangiri (44), a daily wage labourere hails from Nadur near Mettupalayam in Coimbatore district and lives with his wife and two children near Mettupalayam. Velliangiri also takes care of his 68-year-old mother, Marathal. On the night of the incident, all retired to bed and as usual Marathal was lying alone in her room.

Some miscreants reportedly broke open the back door of the house in the middle of the night and removed the 5-pound gold chain that she was wearing around her neck and fled the scene without her knowledge. The next day, Marathal was shocked to see that the chain from her neck had disappeared. She later informed her son about it, and on inspection, they found the back door was broken into.

Velliangiri immediately lodged a complaint with the Mettupalayam police in this regard.Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the miscreants who were involved in the theft.
