Female leopard dies in Valparai - Two leopards may have fight with each other

Forest officers rushed to Sheikalmudi Estate near Valparai after receiving information that a leopard had been found dead. Forest department officials said the leopards may have died after fighting with each other.

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a leopard was found dead under mysterious circumstances near Valparai.

The forest department received information that a leopard had been found dead at Sheikalmudi Estate near Valparai in the Coimbatore district. 



Manampalli forest ranger Manikandan, who rushed to the scene, confirmed that the leopard had died.



Later, on the orders of Anaimalai Tiger Reserve Deputy Director Bhargavetheja, the body of the leopard was examined in the presence of Assistant Conservator of Forests Selvam, Manampalli Forest Ranger Manikandan and Sekkalmudi Estate Manager Dhrupakyothi under the leadership of Forest Veterinary Doctor Vijayaraghavan.



Anatomic samples were then collected for laboratory testing. Forest department officials said the leopard's body was eventually cremated till it was set on fire.

According to forest department officials, the deceased leopard was a six-year-old female leopard and may have fought with other leopards.
