Coimbatore: An e-cycle designed by a life convict in coimbatore central jail is receiving accolades.

Yuva Adithyan (31) is a life convict in the Coimbatore Central Jail. A native of Sathyamangalam in Erode district, he was arrested by the Salem police over a love affair. He was convicted in the murder case eight years ago and sentenced to life imprisonment by a court.

He studied aeronautical engineering and was working in a welding workshop in the jail. Then he saw an old bicycle on the side and planned to do something on it. Based on this, he installed solar on the bicycle and tried to convert it into an electronic bicycle.

Apart from the solar panel, the bicycle can also be charged with the help of plug and dynamo. It can also be used as a regular bicycle and as an e-bike if required. These are known to be useful for police patrols, urban travel, etc.

He has now designed the first bicycle and plans to design 10 more bicycles. He is also interested in the production of e-autos.

It is commendable that an aeronautically educated engineering graduate, who has been convicted of murder under some circumstances or the other and is serving a jail term, has been actively involved in the production of e-bikes and e-autos by using the education he has learnt intelligently.
