Tirupur: In Palladam municipality of Tirupur district, bhoomi pooja was performed for projects worth Rs 2.2 crore, including daily market shops and two-wheeler parking facility.

The event was presided over by District Collector Christuraj.

Saminathan, Minister of Information and Publicity, inaugurated the work. Municipality President Kavithamani and Municipal Commissioner Vinayagam took the lead.

The villagers have been protesting the Anupatti steel mill for the past 100 days, and seven ward councillors, including ruling party councillors, have filed a complaint against the municipality in Palladam. Reporters questioned whether there were allegations that the meeting of municipal councillors was going on improperly.

In response to a reporter's question, Minister Saminathan stated, "The country's industrial growth, including the employment, economy, is very important." At the same time, it is important to consider the environmental impact as well as public health. Based on this, the government will enable the plant to operate under the same conditions as the Annupatti Iron Smelter. If it is determined to be in breach of the regulations, it will undoubtedly be banned. I was not aware of the municipal issue. Nonetheless, he stated that everyone will be summoned and advised to work in unison.
