The protest was headed by district president Paramasivam, who demanded that copra be procured throughout the year. To emphasize their point, the association members broke coconuts in a symbolic gesture.
Tirupur: The Tamil Nadu Coconut Farmers Association, on behalf of the Tirupur district committee, demanded a remunerative price for the coconut in front of the Udumalpet Regulated Market Hall in Tirupur district.

The Tamil Nadu government should directly procure peeled coconut at Rs 50 per kg, the state government should fix the coconut at Rs 140 per kg, and the state government should provide incentives for copra. The protest was held to press for various demands, including that steps be taken to provide coconut oil at subsidised rates at ration shops across Tamil Nadu and the Central government should ban the import of palm oil and sunflower oil.
Later, slogans were raised condemning the central and state governments.
Tamil Nadu Kisan Sangam state president Shanmugam, Tamil Nadu Kisan Sangam district secretaries Arun Prakash and Kumar, district treasurers Bala Dandapani and more than 100 farmers participated in the meeting.
