Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Welfare Association has demanded that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should take steps to waive off the existing analog amount completely to protect the livelihood of the cable TV operators.

The Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Welfare Association has demanded that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should take steps to waive off the existing analog amount completely to protect the livelihood of the cable TV operators.

In 2014, cable TV was digitised across the country after the Union government enacted the Cable TV Regulation Act. In Tamil Nadu, the digital system was introduced in 2017. In this case, they claimed that they had not paid the amount due to them before 2017. The Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation issued an order to the local cable TV operators as a measure to collect the same.

A petition was filed in the Madras High Court on behalf of the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Public Welfare Association and some local cable TV operators, seeking a ban on collection activities. In the petition, it was stated that the order was passed without any notice or evidence.

Justice Seshasayee, who heard the petition, on Thursday ordered an interim stay on the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Corporation from recovering the dues from the local cable TV operators (analog).

Speaking to reporters in Tirupur, the Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators Welfare Association said, there are more than 40,000 cable TV operators operating across Tamil Nadu. In 2014, cable TV was digitised across the country.

In Tamil Nadu, the digital system was introduced in 2017. In 2014, the Arasu Cable TV Corporation had ordered the payment of the analogue (dues) to be paid. It issued notices to cable TV operators across Tamil Nadu.

We filed a case in the Madras High Court in this regard and now the court has issued a stay order on the collection of the analog amount in the case. In 2007, the then Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi waived off rs 16 crore of the loan amount of cable TV operators. The Tamil Nadu Cable TV Operators' Welfare Association has also demanded that the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu should take steps to waive off the existing analog amount completely to protect the livelihood of cable TV operators.
