Coimbatore: NIA officials today conducted searches at the residences of popular front of India and SDPI functionaries at more than 20 places in Tamil Nadu in connection with the murder of Kumbakonam-based PMK leader Ramalingam in 2019.

Abbas, a former functionary of the Popular Front of India in Kottaimedu area of Coimbatore, is a part of it.

A search was also conducted at his house. Officials took away Rs 90,000 cash from his residence after the raid, which lasted for more than two hours, was completed.
Abbas had given an advance of Rs 1,90,000 to his house and the owner of the house had returned Rs 1,20,000 a month ago after he said he would vacate the house.

Apart from spending that money, he had a balance of Rs 90,000. It was reportedly taken away by NIA officials.
