Goat sales slow in Kannivadi market

Kannivadi Goat Market is one of the important goat markets in Tamil Nadu. The market is held on Fridays every week.

Coimbatore: Kannivadi Goat Market is one of the important goat markets in Tamil Nadu. The market is held on Fridays every week. Apart from the big cities of Tamil Nadu like Coimbatore, Pollachi, Udumalpet, Madurai, Trichy and Chennai, traders from neighbouring states like Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh also come here to buy goats.

Farmers from Mulanur, Vellakoil, Paramathi and surrounding villages bring their goats here for sale. Now that it is the month of Aadi, the price of the goats was slightly lower. This week it was sold at Rs 550 per kg.

This week, farmers, who had been loading goats in large numbers on the basis of a good price for the past two weeks, were disappointed. Based on that, a goat weighing 10 kg costs Rs 5500. Only about 6,000 goats were on sale this week.
