Coimbatore City Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeesh inaugurated the awareness human chain organised by P.P.G. College of Optometry and Agarwal Eye Hospital in Coimbatore to raise awareness about eye donation among the public.
Coimbatore: An awareness human chain on eye donation was organized by P.P.G. College of Optometry and Agarwal Eye Hospital, Coimbatore.
National Eye Donation Awareness Week is observed every year from August 25 to September 8 for two weeks to raise awareness about eye donation.
On the instructions of Dr. Thangavelu, Chairman, PPG Educational Clusters, a human chain was organized jointly by P.P.G. College of Optometry, Coimbatore and Agarwal Eye Hospital, Vadakovai, on the instructions of Dr. Thangavelu, Chairman, PPG Educational Clusters, Coimbatore with an aim to increase awareness among the public about eye donation in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore City Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeesh participated in the event and inaugurated the human chain.
Speaking to reporters, he said,
Due to lack of awareness about eye donation, the number of eye donors is declining. Events like these will increase awareness about eye donation. This is how he spoke.
Following this, Jacinda, principal of P.P.G. Ophthalometry College, spoke on the occasion. She said that such programmes are being conducted with the aim of donating eyes so that they can make a mark in the lives of many visually impaired people.
Dr. Jayashree of Agarwal Eye Hospital and others were present on the occasion.
The students of B.P.G. College, who participated in the human chain, marched with placards with slogans such as ''ungal kangal veroruvarin ulagamaaga amaiyattum', "kadavulin parisai yean azhikka vendum"'.
